Roof Repairs

Velux Skylight Replacement

An ageing domed rooflight replaced with an opening Velux unit, fully sealed and weathered. Scaffold at the front, rope access at the rear, completed in a single day.

Project context

Delivered for Gilmartins, a repeat client, named here with their permission. Two technicians, one day on site, August 2026.

Challenge

The rear roof slope of a residential property carried an ageing domed skylight. The unit had gone opaque, the dome had deteriorated and mould had taken hold around the frame. Reaching the rear slope would normally mean a second scaffold, at cost to the client and with disruption to the household and the street.

What was carried out

We used the scaffold already provided at the front of the property and worked the rear slope on rope access instead of erecting a second structure. The old unit was stripped out, the opening prepared and a new opening Velux installed, then fully sealed and the flashing apron dressed down over the surrounding tiles.

Outcome

An opening rooflight installed, sealed and weathered in a single day with two technicians. No second scaffold, no street licence and no disruption beyond the day itself.
