Challenge
Individual slates had failed across the roof slope, leaving gaps beside the lead valley where water could track in. Replacing them means lifting the courses above without breaking sound slates around them.
Failed slates lifted and replaced in patches across a Victorian roof, working alongside the lead valley and parapet.
Project context
Building described without naming the client. Patch replacement rather than a full strip and relay.

Individual slates had failed across the roof slope, leaving gaps beside the lead valley where water could track in. Replacing them means lifting the courses above without breaking sound slates around them.
We worked the slope on rope with a slate ripper, drawing the nails on the failed slates and setting replacements into the existing courses. New slates were worked in patch by patch rather than stripping and relaying the whole slope.
The failed slates were replaced across the slope and the valley left running clear, with the rest of the covering left undisturbed.
