Challenge
Water was getting in at the junction between a brick chimney stack and the slate roof around it. The stack sits mid-pitch on a Victorian roof, so there is no safe footing to work from and no practical way to stand a ladder against it.
Sealing work at the base of a brick chimney stack, reached on rope across the slate pitch rather than from a scaffold or tower.
Project context
Building described without naming the client. Worked entirely from ropes rigged over the slate pitch.

Water was getting in at the junction between a brick chimney stack and the slate roof around it. The stack sits mid-pitch on a Victorian roof, so there is no safe footing to work from and no practical way to stand a ladder against it.
We rigged across the pitch and worked the stack on rope, taking tools and sealant up to the defect rather than working off a platform. The joint at the base of the stack and the lead soaker line were cleaned back and resealed by gun.
The stack junction was sealed with no scaffold erected and no disturbance to the household or the neighbouring gardens below.
