Facade Restoration

Baltic Exchange Facade Restoration

Cement dust had bonded into the glazed tiles of the rear elevation. We lifted it on rope inside a live Mace site, then cleaned the windows and jet washed the paving ready for handover.

Project context

Delivered for Mace, named here with their permission. Two technicians (IRATA Level 3 and Level 2) plus a dedicated groundsman, over 14 days on site in May 2026.

Challenge

Construction works had left the rear elevation coated in cement dust that had bonded into the glazed tiles, and conventional cleaning would not shift it. The elevation faces a narrow alley between buildings with no room to erect scaffolding or stand a MEWP, and all of it had to happen inside a live tier-one construction site to the main contractor's programme.

What was carried out

We inspected the work in person, then submitted RAMS and full supporting documentation for rope access within Mace's active site. Both technicians held CSCS cards and every chemical was assessed under COSHH before use. An IRATA Level 3 supervised a Level 2 on the rear elevation, working COSHH-selected chemicals in with high-quality polishers to lift the bonded residue without damaging the glaze. Every tool was tethered and a street-level exclusion zone stayed closed throughout with a groundsman on it full time. Where the contractor's scaffold was already standing we used it, and paving was jet washed from ground level.

Outcome

The rear elevation came back to as-new condition, tile by tile. Windows were finished around the full perimeter and the courtyard, terrace and entrance paving were jet washed ready for handover. Fourteen days on site with two technicians and a groundsman, delivered inside an active tier-one site.
