Atrium Rooflight Cleaning

Glazed atrium rooflight and its steelwork cleaned over night shifts, using a mobile tower on the lobby floor and rope access from the roof structure above it.

Project context

Building described without naming the client. Two access methods on one job, worked outside business hours.

Technician suspended from the atrium beams working above an aluminium tower on the lobby floor

Challenge

A large glazed atrium rooflight carried on black steel and white beams sits directly above a marble lobby that stays in use. The glazing and the beam structure needed cleaning at height without taking the floor out of service during the day.

What was carried out

We worked night shifts, with a mobile aluminium tower set on the lobby floor for the reachable beam runs and rope access technicians suspended from the roof structure for the glass and steelwork the tower could not reach. Vacuums were slung from the steelwork, technicians wore respiratory protection and head torches, and the glass was cleaned pane by pane.

Outcome

Dust removed from the beams and gusset plates and the rooflight glazing wet-cleaned, with the tower struck and the lobby reinstated before opening each morning.
